Back to Life.

It's been a wonderful holiday. *happy sigh* It felt long and relaxing and that's pretty much all that one can wish from Christmas break. Lots of family time, presents, food and snow.

The house has had a nice long holiday break as well. Which, really, was a good thing cause there was sooo much snow during the break. The carpenters started back yesterday and it's been perfect weather! Today was 10 degrees celsius and mostly sunny. Ahhhh. Remember my post about spring? Well, that's the feeling I had today. I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It is the beginning of January after all. But, oh....it was sooo nice to feel the warm air!

Anyway, now that it's not either pouring down rain, hurricane force winds, or snow storming, the carpenters took the chance to start putting on the new roofing on the back of the house.

You can just see in this picture the tear drop shaped granite tiles that are original to the house. They've been there for 85 years so they've got great patina and are quite charming.

However, the front of the house has new, red-brown, roof tile that was put there a few years ago. It made more sense to remove the back ones to check that everything was ok under there, than to replace the front which we already know is in good shape. Which is kind of a shame but money doesn't grow on trees. Apparently.

Here's what the front side of the roof looks like:

So today, they had just taken off the old granite tiles and had exposed the wood (which looked great!) and were starting to put on new asphalt boards.

We're going to save as many of the granite tiles as we can. Maybe we can use them for a little playhouse for the girls someday?
